Sunday 23 January

Departure and arrival

The plane departed at 9.00 in the morning from the infamous "Belgium" to the very cold Finland. Inside the plane the flight crew made a feeble attempt to poison us with some kind of magic ciabatta-roll, but luckily we survived this ordeal with further ado, Frederik sleeping through the whole thing because he was up all night playing Burnout3 on the XBOX.

"They needed an animal that could fit the cup," he said. "A rabbit? - Nope. A reindeer? - Nope. A slug? No-o! A tiger? Yup."

We made it to Lahti to check in at the apartment, and then to eat pizza with Ritua, who was as ever a pleasant welcome to Lahti. Look how she wooed us all:

Workshop theme

There will be about 13 students participating in the workshop this year, 9 finnish and 4 foreign students, one of which is Dennis, a first masters in St. Lucas Antwerp.

The workshop theme will be dealing with "Intelligence": how can intelligence (AI, ...) be incorporated into typefaces or the reproduction of text, how can text create itself, how can essential keywords be filtered from texts, ... these are just some ideas, it's basically up to the students to come up with their own ideas.

The workshop will deal with a mixture of FontLab, DrawBot, Processing and Macromedia Director, apart from a highly conceptual approach on how to create a typeface.
